Gospel of Mark Sermon Series

June 2017 – April 2018

Mark’s is the earliest, the shortest, and the most ‘raw’ of the four Gospels. It has the feel of a fast-moving docu-drama shot on location with a slightly shaky hand-held camera.

It reads like it was scribbled down in haste. Perhaps it was; one ancient source claims it was put together from Mark’s notes on Peter’s excitable preaching – as the net of persecution closed in on the early church in Rome. This might also explain why it ends so abruptly and was no doubt rounded off later.

The emphasis is very much on what Jesus did – he is Action Man bursting onto the scene with no introduction and wasting no time in bringing the kingdom of God to earth, before resolutely heading to Jerusalem to lay down his life as a ransom for many.

At All Saints’ we are going to travel through the whole Gospel from beginning to end, with a short pause for Christmas, ending on Easter Sunday 2018.
